Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin’s Newest Ventures

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are the former owners of Phoenix New Times and are the current owners of The Frontera Fund and Front Page Confidential. In college, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin linked up to create school paper to provide alternative viewpoints to the school’s conservative views.

After dropping out of college, the two continued their left wing journalistic efforts. As co-owners of The Phoenix New Times, they got under the skin of one specific conservative to such a degree that he caused him to violate the constitution out of anger. This man was Joe Arpaio.

If you haven’t heard of Joe Arpaio, I can’t express how lucky you are. Arizona residents have been putting up with the corrupt behavior of their former sheriff since 1992. Shortly after becoming Sheriff of Maricopa County, Joe Arpaio began a trail of extremism and illegal behavior.

Joe Arpaio created a self proclaimed concentration camp to combat prison overpopulation, he has illegal detained individuals, and has supposedly ordered his deputies to beat inmates on countless occasions.

One such instance of political corruption exhibited by Arpaio was the arrest of Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. Arpaio didn’t like that The Phoenix New Times was publishing content that exposed his illegal asset hiding. In retaliation for the New Times doing its job, Arpaio sent his deputies to arrest those that owned the paper, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin.

“We were a constant thorn in his side,” said Jim Larkin. “I thin that’s why Michael and I got arrested.” he confessed.

Arpaio didn’t only target journalists for illegal detainment of course, the same year he arrested Lacey and Larkin he arrested a Mexican citizen who was in the country legally. Both illegal arrests of that year led to lawsuits.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were awarded almost 4 million dollars for the event; the arrest of the Mexican citizen eventually led to Arpaio being convicted of criminal contempt of court.

The victory for Arpaio’s victim was short lived. Only three months after Arpaio was convicted, Donald Trump pardoned him of his crime. Now, as a free man, Joe Arpaio intends to run for a Senate seat on Capitol Hill as a representative of the State of Arizona.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are attempting to prevent that from happening. By using Front Page Confidential, the duo intend to stop not just Arpaio but all politicians from holding public office.

Their most noble efforts do not come from their newspaper;however, they come from The Frontera Fund. By using the Frontera Fund, Lacey and Larkin are supporting a large range of charities in and around Arizona.
