OSI Group has long been a
major player in the world of food processing, wholesale, and distribution. The
firm serves many of the leading operations in the world of restaurants and retail and carries with it a reputation for
excellence in customer service and food quality. McDonalds has long been a
standout customer for the firm. OSI is also a firm that has a long-standing and
outstanding reputation when it comes to the topic of business partnerships.
Throughout its century-plus history, OSI Group has used the concept of business
partnerships to help grow its business model and to become the industry leader
that the firm is today. OSI is one of the world’s largest food processing
organizations with a host
of processing plants located around the world’s continents. This growth has
been consistent over the years and the last four decades have seen the firm
expand rapidly. More information about OSI at inc.com
In staying true to its
tradition of excellence in partnerships, OSI Group just announced a major new partnership that the company has built with one of the
fastest-growing and top-ranked food startup businesses to enter the industry in
years. This company is known as Impossible Foods and it is the creator of a
product known as the Impossible Burger. Impossible Foods has quickly become a leader in
the plant-based foods revolution and the Impossible Burger is a plant-based
burger that has rapidly attained a large number of fans. The burger already
holds a place on the menu at Burger King and the firm hopes to see this product
land on the menu of other major fast-food players such as McDonalds shortly.
The success of the
Impossible Burger has catapulted Impossible Foods to rapid success but that
success has come so quickly that the demand for this product has gone beyond
the firm’s ability to produce the product. Since the firm is not able to keep
up with the demand for the Impossible Burger by way of its processing
capabilities, it is bringing in OSI in order to co-produce this outstanding and
highly popular food item. Both firms have expressed a great deal of
excitement at being able to work together in co-producing this highly popular
McDonalds and OSI Group Team Up with Impossible
The rise of meat alternatives means investors in the food industry are looking for ways to jump in on the craze. Currently, the easiest way to get in on the trend is raising weekly capacity. Right now, meat alternatives have one problem: lack of supply. Demand is higher than it’s ever been, but companies can’t produce enough to meet demand. Impossible Foods, creators of the famous Impossible Burger are set to enter the retail markets later this year, but it’s having trouble supplying its current vendors with enough products. To raise weekly capacity, Impossible has partnered with McDonalds long-time leading meat supplier OSI Group. OSI and McDonald’s have been partners since the first McDonalds restaurant opened in 1955.
The two companies have grown and expanded the globe together, exploring new food products to introduce to different parts of the world. While McDonald’s needs no introduction, OSI Group grew in the shadows, quietly building its reputation within the global food industry. When Impossible Foods began looking for partners, it was only a matter of time before they decided on OSI. OSI has some of the highest health and safety standards in the industry. It has more than 65 operating facilities in over 15 countries. While Impossible Foods will obviously gain an experienced partner, OSI looks forward to working with one of the most ambitious start-ups in the industry.
Impossible also helps OSI’s commitment to sustainable food production. As mass-production becomes more civilized, sustainable is taken more into account. Both companies have committed entire facilities to produce enough product to reach Impossible’s desires to move into retail and continue supplying the thousands of restaurants around the country that already selling Impossible Burgers. As more fast food restaurant chains, like Burger King, plan to add the Impossible Burger to their menus, it’s increasingly important to produce enough product. The reason Impossible Foods and other plant based meat alternatives companies are experiencing shortages is that none of them planned on being as successful as they are.
Otto Kolschowsky immigrated from Germany to the United States and within two years opened a meat market in Oak Park, Illinois in 1909. By 1928, Otto had renamed his meat market Otto & Sons and had moved the company to the Chicago suburb of Maywood. Otto &Sons had an impeccable reputation of providing the highest quality meats in the state. In 1955, Otto & Sons would establish their longest running partnership with franchise owner Ray Kroc. Kroc gained franchise rights to open a chain of McDonald’s burger restaurants through his partnership with brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. Ray Kroc would later buy out the franchise entirely, and Otto & Son’s would be the sole product supplier of ground beef patties to the restaurant chain.
In 1973, Otto & Sons was operating its meat plant that processed quality meats for local businesses and McDonald’s Corporation. The plant had specially designed machines that shaped the ground beef into patties and used a specially designed cryogenic freezing process to allow the meats to travel across the country. In 1975, Otto & Sons became OSI Industries, and Sheldon Lavin would come on board as the company’s financial consultant through a creatively crafted bank deal. In 1990, OSI Group would continue to expand and partnered with Alaska Milk Corporation and the General Mills Corporation to form GENOSI. OSI Group expanded its global reach and now processes and ships foods within the Philippines.
In 1995, OSI Group formed Vista Processed Foods in India, and by 2002, they established OSI China in Beijing. OSI Group made several notable partnerships on its way to becoming one of the world’s largest meat processing companies. They opened a new extension of their headquarters in Aurora, Illinois called the Culinary Innovation Center. OSI Group serves restaurant and retail chains around the world. The use the latest technologies to stay ahead of any would-be competitors. Their foods meet the delights of many culinary profiles, and the company maintains the highest levels of environmental safety precautions.
