Anyone who has succeeded in a task, no matter what the size, knows that effort was a necessary part of his or her success. What Vijay Eswaran, a Malaysian businessman and executive chairman of the QI Group, wants people to also understand is that leaning into fear is another important element of growth.
If you don’t live in fear, your day-to-day life is likely filled with familiarity. While that is good to some degree, it also means that you’ve become stagnant. To really expand your horizons, you need to embrace the fear associated with trying new things and pushing your boundaries. As Eswaran says, “fear is a great motivator for growth.” If people can shift their perspectives as he has and begin to view something intimidating and scary as an exciting opportunity, then true growth and change can happen.
Consider the path that Vijay Eswaran has taken to get to where he is today. He moved extensively as a child due to his father’s job, and each time he had to take advantage of different opportunities to learn and meet new people. After graduating from the London School of Economics, he traveled around Europe and took on a variety of jobs, many of which involved working with his hands. He was then able to draw on all of the skills that he gained through these adventures when he co-founded his multilevel marketing company. Now, the QI Group has offices around Asia and is a part of operations in more than 30 countries. Eswaran has been invited to speak at numerous events and conferences, and he has authored three best-selling books, including In The Sphere of Silence.
