End Citizens United Continues to Fight Against the Landmark Supreme Court Citizens United Decision

End Citizens United, a Political Action Committe (PAC) that was formed in reaction to the landmark US Supreme Court decision, Citizens United vs. the Federal Elections Committe, continues in thier fight to end the SuperPACs, that this supreme court decision created. This PAC is focused on grassroots campaigns and donations from individuals, rather than the large, major corporations that donate to SuperPACs.

One of the ways that this PAC works to overturn the Citizens United decision, which dealt a devistating blow to campaign finance reform is by supporting political canditates who oppose this Supreme Court decision. The 2018 midterm elections have been a major focus of End Citizens United and other progressively minded political groups and individuals.

During the midterm elections, End Citizens United has lent their support to political camdidates who have eschewed these values. End Citizens United has lent thier support by endorsing canditates and monetarily, where appropriate.

Among the canidates the PAC has supported or is supporting during the 2018 midterm elections are Beto O’ Rourke, Randy Bryce, Elissa Slotkin, Andy Kim, Brendan Kelley, and Jacky Rosen. These candidates have run grassroots campaigns, soliticting donations and support from voters rather than politcal machines and corporations.

Beto O’Rourke is notable because he is one of only six canidates for the United States House of Representives who has promised to run without taking any money from PAC. Despite this, he has managed to raise more than $17 million dollars in his race to unseat Senator Ted Cruz from his seat as a Represenative from Texas.

Randy Bryce, from Wisconson is looking to fill the seat that will be left vacent when Paul Ryan retires. He began his campaign fighting to unseat Ryan, but the annoucement of his retirement left him even more room to run. Bryce has relied on small donors who average about $25 in campaign contributions each.

Elissa Slotkin is an ex-CIA agent from Michigan who is running to unseat incumbent Mike Bishop. Bishop is one of the Senator listed on ECU’s Big Money 20 list and voted to repeal the ACA. Slotikin is relatively unknown and is running against a well liked incombant but with the right support she can win. How to Reverse Citizens United.

Andy Kim is another canidate who has pledged not to accept PAC or corporate money. He is running against Tom McArthur to represent New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional district.

With the help of End Citizens United and grassroots support candiates like these can help change the way campaigns are run and give the power back to the voters.
