A U.S. based organization, Avaaz is a civic organization that has been working to improve the world for more than a decade. This group promotes activism around the world. They focus on major issues such as animal rights, climate control and human rights. Their company name is evident of their focus. Avaaz means voice in Asian languages. For years this company has worked to be just that, a voice for the world to help make it a better place.
Avaaz has a group of co-founders which include Ricken Patel, Tom Pravda, Tom Perriello, and Australian entrepreneur David Madden. Ricken Patel serves as the company’s executive director. Patel himself is a Harvard University graduate. He has experience working for the International Crisis Group which includes in Sierra Leone and Afghanistan.
Avaaz’s focus is to empower people of all backgrounds to take action on important global, issues ranging from poverty to climate change. The company works by a philosophy known as practical idealism. This practice believes it is essential to spread ideas of virtue and good. Over the years Avaaz has supported many important world wide causes including the chaos of the Syrian Civil War. Avaaz was responsible for sending nearly two million dollars of communications equipment to protesters and activists in the area. The company even worked in the 2016 United States Presidential election helping to produce a tool to simplify voter registration.
The Avaaz group works by using an amazing 15 languages. Thousands of volunteers work across six world continents. This is a group that is willing to do whatever it takes to make an impact including actions like lobbying governments, signing petitions, making phone calls and emails and even funding campaigns. Avaaz has already made a tremendous world wide impact. Their passion and dedication serve as proof they should be around for many years to come.
