How Avaaz Manages to Conduct its Operations

Some people may have heard about the term Avaaz while others may not. Well, Avaaz is a civic organization working around the world concentrating on global activism. The firm has its headquarters in the United States and has been in existence since the year 2007. Among the many issues that the company handles include corruption, animal rights, poverty, and conflicts. The company is known to advocate for the climate change issue. It was referred by the Guardian in the past as one of the most influential activist networks in the world. To ensure that the organization sounds global, they decided to settle on the name Avaaz which has some Persian descent and means song or voice. Not only does the word Avaaz exist in Persian but is also exists in other languages especially the Indo-European languages. Avaaz is as a result of the Res Publica. This is another civic organization that has dedicated its services to promoting deliberative democracy and good governance.

Other organizations that played a part in the establishment of this organization include MoveOn. Org which is a nonprofit organization and the Service Employees International Union. To date, these organizations have a say in what happens in the organization. The foundation of the organization was also as a result of individuals like David Madden, Jeremy Heimans and Eli Pariser. Other individuals who were key in the foundation of the organization include Ricken Patel, Andrea Woodhouse and Tom Pravda. The organization implements a unique funding model. First, Avaaz cannot take donations of over $5000 from individuals. Second, they have completely refused to receive donations from corporations. They say that most of these donations have strings attached on how the funds should be used. At the end of the day, nothing important is achieved. Some of the countries that this organization has helped include Libya, Syria, and Ukraine.
